| Update SP1215 Move Preparation & Issues - October 27, 2010 |
|
J. Ezovsk First a very big thank you to Mr. Robert Pederson of A Tool Shed. Without his help, none of the work completed today would have been possible. Preparations for moving 1215 to the new display site took a big jump forward. On Saturday I was doubtful that all necessary work could be completed within a 10 days time. That doubt is slowly being erased. Today several parts of the locomotive and tender were lubricated. Tender journal boxes are now packed with journal oil soaked towels. The locomotive's journals were lubricated and then the locomotive pulled forwarded about 7 feet. This allowed for the cleaning and lubrication of the right steam cylinder. The left cylinder was cleaned and lubricated back in July. Back in July the locomotive and tender's brake cylinders were cleaned, lubricated and a functional test was performed. Today both eccentric rods and union links were all so removed to inhibit valve movement. One panel of track was also constructed today. This panel will be used during the loading process. Thanks to Steve Raby. Today with the A Tool Shed tractor completed digging out a 9 foot wide, 100 foot long by about 6 inch deep trench in the new display area. Issues:
Thanks to all involved with this project. Most of the real tough stuff is behind.
